alison -- day 25 -- macro trials #3

these are dried flowers in a screw-top wine bottle. I LOVE the detailing that presented itself for this image. It made me very happy to photograph these flowers.

Oz: The Return to the Land of Oz

Day 21 – Take my picture day – While at an after party at sundance this women drunkenly approaches me to take photos of her. I tell her I am a famous photographer from New York. She demands that I give her instructions on how to pose like a famous model. I am drunk too, and fumble with the controls and the framing. I tell her she is naturally beautiful, I believe this to be true. She is dissatisfied, with my photos of her, she is ugly she states. I have failed again…

Day 22 – Summer in winter day – The warehouse lets out early, so I skip across the street and photograph the windmills made of tin. They look so cool against the stark blue sky.

Photobucket

Day 23 – Close to the end day – Things at the fest are winding down and I am tired. I am waiting to go home to my Vermont home. Posters are everywhere screaming about the last showings before it all ends

Day 24 – The last day – The Egyptian looks so cool at night. I trip and fall on my face after meeting a film maker. They can’t all be gems. It starts to snow around 12am. I get drunk and make out with a boy who cannot dance. Mistakes are around every corner. I choose the less complicated of two evils and am subsequently disappointed.

Day 25 – Lucky Travel day – I used to love to fly, now I hate it. It seems like every trip I take lasts an eternity. Due to sleep deprivation and possibly a hangover I leave my camera at the gate in Utah, and don’t even realize until a flight attendant makes an announcement. The camera is returned to me, and out of sheer panic I photograph the gate to prove to myself how fucking lucky I am that my device didn’t get stolen.

Day 26 – Welcome home day – If feels good to be home, and we have a potluck for Jenna’s birthday with delicious cake. Joey looks like a goof, and makes a big mess, but I love him anyway.

Photobucket

Day 27 – fortune day – The irony of finding this fortune upon my arrival from a 6 week expedition of self discovery is not lost on me. Perhaps I am destined to be a wandering soul…

Photobucket

Day 28 – thermometer day – Everything is frozen and looks like jewelry.

Photobucket

Day 29 – snow day – The snow keeps coming. It looks beautiful. It looks like it will never stop. I secretly hope it dosent…

Mat Ryan: Jan 25 and 26

So my friends and I went to the Long Trail brewery for a late lunch, drank some coffee stout, and I snapped this picture while my friend was driving, then converted it to black and white and left the bridge colored.

Sunset hitting Mt. Cardigan through a fence at a propane filling station.

Alison: Day # 24, Day # 25, Day # 26

Here are the pictures I took on Saturday, Sunday, and also today.

Day 24: Mat inspired me. This is my terrible rendition of something he successfully accomplished a few posts back. It's a delayed shutter release night shot of traffic. I had my tripod, but didn't use it because I didn't have the adaptor clip for the bottom of my camera. So I sat in the car and rested it on the window frame, lined up the shot, then pulled my face away from the camera before pressing the shutter. This way any head movement I inadvertently made wouldn't change the photo.

I really love the way these kinds of pictures turn out . . . when done well. So with that in mind, I'm pretty sure I'll be attempting more of them. Maybe in city scenes.

Day 25: This is Lake Hernando or Hernando Lake. I'm not sure which is the official name; all I know is it's the lake in Hernando.

I didn't do anything special with this. Just got low, close to the water, and snapped the shot. The sky was cloudless and the water was glassy.

I particularly like the roughness of the foreground -- the choppy reeds in the water and the rocky, sludgy edge -- eventually juxtaposed to the glass-like water, fluffy treeline and gradient sky.

Also about this photo, I like the somewhat balanced nature of it. The darkness of the foreground smooths into the light, most distant part of the lake, then there's that fluffy treeline, then the light, almost white sky turns to a rich blue color. My personal opinion. I just said a lot about my own photo. hah.

Day 26: Today was ultra foggy on my way to work. ULTRA foggy. There's a place between home and work that seems to be particularly appealing to the migrating cranes. I'm not sure why, but there's often times a small flock of them in the fields.

This morning I couldn't resist. I not only stopped on my way to work, but I went out of my way to get onto the property (to eliminate the fence between us) with the cranes to take the picture.

So here they are. What do you think?

Lily Rose Day 24: Taxi? & Day 25: Obstructed View?

Day 25: Obstructed View?
This photo was taking on Payne's Prarie through the fence as the sun was setting. I like taking photos of the sky because there are always so many shades of color to try and capture at any given time of day. It reminds me of how many layers one person or thing can have and that keeps me on my toes ladies and gentlemen....

Day 24: Taxi?
I took this picture in the parking lot of the Veteran's hospital here in Gainesville. I went in with the intention of taking a picture of the flag with the streetlight glow, but quickly realized it was still too dark for my camera, so I settled on this shot.
