pabs(t)mear: First post: January
I know that it is the 22nd and not the first but I figured better late then never. I am not a photographer, but I am interesting in capturing memorys, actions, and moments so that I may never forget what or why or where I have been.

4. "Otherwise put, just like daily life"
5. "We have work to do, and loads to lift"

Oz : New Year New Day
I have been on the run from myself for the past two weeks. The internet is sparse for this modern day carnie. I've been traveling so hence minimal posts. Moments, and memories are hard to capture, it is the mundane things that are the most striking to me. I love remembering moments in time, that’s what my posts are about. This is a year of change and I invite you to join me. Let’s explore this insane messy existence and the swirling of the cosmos together.
Day 1- New Years day - I am sitting on a ledge both physically and metaphorically this year is about taking the leap into the next phase of my life. Lets hope I land on both feet.
Day 2 – Experience LA day – View from perishing square, just around the corner from my temporary apartment.
Day 3 –
Day 4 – No leaving apartment day – I smoked too many cigarettes and played to much xbox today.
Day 5 – Observatory day – Went to Griffith Observatory today, I learned all about space and had some face time with James Dean.
Day 6 – Blast from the Past day – Met up with an old friend from middle school today. Spent some time thinking about the past and watched the sunset over downtown from the roof.
Day 7 – Self portrait day – I have been experimenting with self portraits recently. I need to get a shutter release thingy but for now I have to hit the timer button repeatedly.
Day 8 – Pirate bar day – Went with Mitch to our favorite bar only to find that the hipsters had invaded it requiring a long wait after the art walk. He took me to another bar a few blocks away that had a pirate theme. Awesome.
Day 9 – Rolling fog day – A heavy fog rolled into downtown and everything looked all eerie, went to the roof and took some more photos.
Day 10 – Haunted hotel day – Wondered around the hotel today, some rooms and floors are completely abandoned, It was too creepy and I scared myself a few times. Took some out of focus pictures of
Day 11 – All for me day – Packed my stuff to leave for Sundance, took some photos in bed cause I was feeling saucy.
Day 12 – Full moon bond day – James Bond party and the moon was full. It looked perfect in a way that my camera cannot capture. The clouds and the light were just incredible.
Day 13 – Starfish beach day – Went to the beach with the brother, a very nice way to end my trip. Under the boardwalk we found a starfish,
Look foraward to daily posts when I get back from being out on the road.

This guy really knows how to spend a chilly January afternoon!
Thanks for the tips you posted a few days ago with my headless cat picture -- sneaking up on him while he was sleepy helped! See, I'm learning already :-)

Patrick: Week One - At A Slow Pace, but I'm Catching Up
So, This is my first image for this project and it is, well, its my ear. I don't do face shots but I figured that an introduction was in order so. Here it is. What you get to know of me.
This is prior to my haircut when I had blue highlights, which I miss ever so much; though, there really isn't much I can do about it now.
Day five. This canteen. Is amazing.
The piece is entitled Rot.
This piece is pretty much a statement supporting my father who is VERY into going green. He actually bought this 20 dollar stainless steel jug as a Christmas gift for me.
Now, I carry it everywhere. And water that doesn't taste like petro-chemicals or have an experation date is growing on me.
Vitamins are kinda important. I mean. The majority of what is in them generally doesn't make it into your system; but, ya know. They help.
Anyway, during high school I took a lot of diet pills so this one just reminded me of that struggle with image. I called it break because my esteem issues kinda. Broke me. More of a personal thing than an art piece but, whatever.
This is my final submission for week one.
This piece is entitled heaven. Its kinda silly but I was lieing down and I looked at the ceiling fan and it reminded me of the saying a light at the end of the tunnel so. Then I wondered what would happen if you met someone who wanted to go into the light. Ya know....
In any case, I think the picture explains itself pretty well in conjunction with the title.
Okay, so this it is for week one. I'm open to critic, but a gentle approach is appreciated. Suggestions are also appreciated, especially regarding night photography.
These images were all dark roomed and cropped to 8x10 (or 10x8) from roughly 34x42s or something like that. I also desaturated spots in Introduction and Dark.
That's it for now. Have a pleasant evening.

Lily Rose Day 6: Never Look Back

I was riding out to the mall with some friends to grab something to eat at Ruby Tuesday's and for whatever reason the traffic in my side mirror caught my eye as being very photographic. Maybe it's just me. It's basically showing how cluttered life is most days, especially around "rush hour". Welcome to the newcomers and thanks for the comments to everyone else.
Alison, Day # 6: Stand Up.
There's a wall along 34th Street in Gainesville, Florida. It spans a length easily matching a couple city blocks and when it was built I'm sure it was beautifully pure concrete. As the years have gone on, several generations of artists have traveled from destinations near and far to paint this wall.
Tributes, congratulations, celebrations, memorials, protests, exhaltations, announcements -- the wall has seen it all. And today, the only difference from the very first day someone scrawled their signature across a fresh, concrete canvas is several layers of paint.
Painting the 34th Street wall is not only legal, it's encouraged. It's praised and if it's good enough, it even makes the morning paper. Grafitting the 34th Street wall is a symbol of Gainesville patriotism and hat-tippage.
You tip your hat to the gracious and glorious city? Paint it on the wall.
You want to wish your best friend slash roommate a happy birthday? There's no greater gift than to see your name painted seven feet tall on the 34th Street wall -- a wall you know half the city will have seen by mid day.
This photographed section of mural struck me powerful because of three simple lines in the top right quadrant (one of which has been halfway painted through):
Stand Up.
Speak Out.
Strike Back.
Is this political? Maybe. Is it a cry against racism? Perhaps.
The bottom line is, whatever it meant to the painter doesn't matter. These three lines are one of the universal truths that goes so unsaid it is sometimes regrettably forgotten. Too often we turn a blind eye, forget where we came from, or neglect to get up after we've been knocked down.
Driving down 34th and seeing those three lines could change the life of a person, could change the mind of a beaten woman or a unjustly treated minority. Those three lines bring me to ask myself, if I don't stand up, speak out, and strike back, who will?

This Is Life

This is my church- where I have attended since I was 4 years old. This is our second building, the first was destroyed by an arson fire close to 15 years ago. I stood and watched that building burn to the ground.
I have always loved the look this building has- the red brick and the white pillars and doors- I just love it!
Constructive criticism is ok ^_^
Robby, day #6: Øresund Bridge

hello from italy, strangers! nice to meet you all. well, today's pics comes from my recent trip in North Europe. I was in Malmö, on Christmas Day, and while clouds were on Sweden, the sun was going down on Denmark. You can see the Øresund Bridge, which connects the two countries... 12kms over the sea and the last 4kms under the sea level. It was 3pm, quite odd for a sunset, but not over there in winter.

6th of January, 2009

I woke up in a rather bad mood this morning and I think it's because my body hasn't been around any nicotine since new years day, so I did what I do when I'm in a bad mood and I went for a nice long drive and admired the scenery and I really like the way trees look without leaves, so mangles, just lacking life in a way, not dead, just lifeless. Anyways, apple trees seem to be the coolest but that's probably because they're forced to stay short for so long. Random story, I was in Zurich, Switzerland once and had a woman hand me an apple and then she gave me this lecture on why apple trees should be allowed to grow tall so birds can live in them and how it's better for the environment and yeah... It was a really good apple.
Anyways, here's a tree! I tried to edit it, but it turns out the blue filter was just enough for it.
